Immigration NZ update regarding COVID-19 Alert Levels

New Zealand moves to Alert Level 4 from 11:59pm on Wednesday 25 March 2020.  In light of this, the Government has released an epidemic management notice relating to immigration matters. The epidemic notice comes into effect on Thursday 2 April 2020. There are several key updates under this notice that will affect those currently in New Zealand on a temporary (work, student, visitor, interim and limited) visa and those wishing to enter or exit New Zealand.

Updates regarding temporary visas

Travellers with a temporary visa that expires before 1 April 2020 and who are unable to leave New Zealand must apply online for a new visa. An interim visa will be issued.

Travellers with a temporary visa due to expire between 1 April and 9 July 2020 will be automatically granted visa extensions until late September 2020. Confirmation of these extensions will be emailed to all visa holders.

Other immigration updates

Other updates in the epidemic notice include travel to New Zealand, transit and departure from New Zealand, exceptions to entry restrictions, and travel to and from the Pacific Islands.

Further details are available online.
