Senior promotions highlight market growth

Top New Zealand law firm, MinterEllisonRuddWatts has promoted five lawyers into senior positions, effective 1 July.

The promotions reflect the firm’s ongoing growth and prominence, especially in banking and financial services, dispute resolution and real estate practices.

The firm’s Chair Lloyd Kavanagh says: “Recognising our people’s talent, skills and experience is key to our high performing culture, and our continued growth.

“We understand that to be New Zealand’s best law firm we must retain and develop the best people – to offer our clients the best commercial and legal advice. We are delighted that these talented team members are progressing their careers with MinterEllisonRuddWatts.”

The newly promoted Special Counsel and four senior associates are:

Kate Jenkison (Special Counsel, Banking and Financial Services, Auckland)

Kate is a highly regarded senior lawyer, known for her technical excellence and procedural knowledge. Having spent time on secondment in General Counsel and Corporate Counsel roles, Kate’s natural pragmatism and commerciality have been further enhanced.  Kate has built true ‘trusted advisor’ status both in these roles of great responsibility and with many other clients.

Jenny Ali (Senior Associate, Real Estate, Auckland)

Jenny joined MinterEllisonRuddWatts in 2016 and has been involved in some of the most significant transactions the Real Estate team has handled in the last few years. Technically well-rounded, Jenny has been pivotal in the training and mentoring of junior lawyers. Also active in the firm’s China practice, Jenny has built excellent relationships with clients in New Zealand and offshore.

Daniel Fielding (Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution – Employment and Public Law, Auckland)

Since joining the firm in December 2011, Daniel has worked in the Corporate team as well as the DR/Employment team in both Wellington and Auckland offices. After completing his LLM in Singapore he returned to advise on employment and public law matters and has a special interest in arbitration.  Daniel has developed strong working relationships with key clients having earned their trust.

Emma Peart (Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution, Wellington)

Emma returned to New Zealand in January 2018 after a stint in London where she worked for Jones Day.  She is highly sought after for her expertise, and was seconded back to Jones Day to continue working on an international commercial arbitration.  Emma is playing a significant role in the further development of MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ arbitration practice.

Molly Powers (Senior Associate, Dispute Resolution, Wellington)

Molly has become a key member of the Wellington Dispute Resolution team since joining the firm in June 2015.  Her experience at a leading Chicago-based firm has further bolstered the firm’s representative/class action and cybersecurity expertise.  Molly’s commercial pragmatism and strategic ability is highly regarded by her peers and clients.

The firm is also proud to announce two new senior solicitors – Alannah Manson (Corporate, Auckland) and Julian Spring (Dispute Resolution, Auckland).

The promotions took effect on 1 July 2018.
