Sue is a tax specialist with broad experience advising on a range of New Zealand tax matters, primarily in the banking and financial services sector.

Sue’s areas of focus include corporate taxation and GST. She also has experience advising on regulatory compliance (including FATCA/CRS) and cross-border tax issues on commercial transactions and financing matters.

Prior to working at MinterEllisionRuddWatts, Sue held various in-house tax roles for over 10 years. Most recently, she was with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (New Zealand Banking Group) (HSBC), where she had overall responsibility for the tax affairs of the New Zealand operation. She was extensively involved in managing IRD risk reviews, advising on the tax aspect of projects and transactions, including the sale of NZ mortgage portfolio to Pepper Money Limited, an ASX limited company. The transaction comprised over NZD 1 billion of assets under management.
