Sarah is an experienced commercial lawyer advising at the intersection of technology, consumer, intellectual property, media and sports law.

She is a trusted advisor to clients commercialising new ventures and documenting complex contractual arrangements. Sarah’s experience spans a broad range of commercial contracts – from research and development and intellectual property licensing, through to digital asset management, NFTs, services, supply and distribution, software, privacy and data sharing.

Sarah has particular experience in the emerging field of ‘new media’ – bringing together her expertise in commercial contracting, licensing arrangements, and intellectual property to assist clients to protect and commercialise digital assets including non-fungible tokens and collectibles in the web3 environment. She has worked with developers, suppliers, and licensors to negotiate and document a number of cutting-edge deals in this area.

Sarah is a strategic and solutions-focused thinker who works with clients to provide advice which cuts through complex scenarios in a simple and tailored manner.

Career highlights

Providing broad commercial advice to the Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company Limited across research and development, sales, marketing, and export business units with a focus on supply and distribution arrangements and contracting.

Advising New Zealand Cricket on the terms of a landmark NFT rights deal with sports technology company, Dream Sports, regarding global licensing rights for the development and commercialisation of NFTs, mobile games, and merchandise.

Advising a market leading technology developer on legal compliance frameworks for the commercialisation and launch of decentralised digital assets including NFTs, and drafting terms and conditions and other legal documentation underpinning relevant rights.

Acting for New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on the terms and documentation of Spark Sport’s novation of its broadcasting rights contract with NZC to TVNZ.

Assisting Sport New Zealand in the RFP, contracting and negotiation of a national, first of its kind independent Sport and Recreation Complaints and Mediation Service (SRCMS) funded by Sport New Zealand and rolled out nationally.

Advising a number of major New Zealand banks and businesses on the implementation and compliance requirements for the extension of the unfair contract terms regime to small trade contracts.
