Leading law firm, MinterEllisonRuddWatts has advised J&P Turner Limited on its agreement to acquire T&G Global's New Zealand fresh produce and transport business, in a landmark transaction that sees one of New Zealand's most recognised names in the produce sector return to family ownership.

Corporate Partner Mark Forman led the law firm’s team acting for J&P Turner says the transaction is strategically significant for both the Turner family and New Zealand's fresh produce sector.

"This is a significant transaction that brings an iconic New Zealand business back under the stewardship of the family whose name has been synonymous with the produce industry for generations,” says Mark Forman.

"The Turner family has a deep connection to this business and its heritage. This acquisition provides an opportunity to build on that legacy while positioning the business for continued growth in a rapidly evolving market.

"We were delighted to support J&P Turner on a transaction of this scale and importance, helping secure the future of a business that has played a pivotal role in New Zealand's fresh produce industry for more than a century."

The transaction follows T&G Global's announcement that J&P Turner will acquire its New Zealand fresh produce and transport business, with the Turner family also leasing from T&G Global the properties from which relevant growing units operate.

The law firm’s deal team led by Mark Forman included partners David Gilbert, Christopher Young and Andrew Ryan, senior associates Alex Bouwman, Holly-Marie Rearic, Rob Penney, and Steven Liu, and solicitors Nick Stewart, Bernice Kong and Hasaan Malik.

The transaction remains subject to clearance from the New Zealand Commerce Commission.
